Rosemarie Santa González, a postdoctoral fellow at Georgia Tech’s AI4OPT initiative, has been named a Resilient, Equitable, and Circular Innovations with Partnership and Education Synergies (RECIPES) Fellow. The fellowship recognizes her commitment to addressing critical societal challenges in food systems through innovative and socially responsible research.
Tackling Food Insecurity with AI and Logistics
González’s work at AI4OPT aligns closely with the mission of the NSF-funded RECIPES program. Her research focuses on developing AI-enabled decision-support tools to optimize supply chains while incorporating principles of social equity and ethical AI to empower marginalized communities. By leveraging advanced logistical models, González aims to improve food access for underserved populations.
She led a project in collaboration with the Wisconsin Food Hub Cooperative and Native American partners. The initiative addressed food insecurity by designing logistics systems that enhanced the distribution of fresh, nutritious food to areas with limited access.
A Path of Purpose and Impact
Before joining Georgia Tech, González’s career was shaped by her passion for addressing societal challenges through logistics optimization. She worked on humanitarian logistics for mobile clinics in conflict zones and contributed to disaster management efforts.
As her postdoctoral fellowship at Georgia Tech concludes in January 2025, González is focused on her long-term goal of becoming a faculty member. She hopes to continue conducting impactful research while mentoring the next generation of scholars dedicated to solving societal challenges.
